Why I made Cebuzone
I'm Oscar Perocho Jr., born and raised in Cebu.
I work in IT, but I've always loved travelling around Cebu, taking photos, and exploring places I've never been to before. Most of my photos are taken with my phone. As they say, the best camera is the one in your pocket. I also enjoy capturing 360° videos along the way.
I've travelled around a lot of Cebu over the years. I've lost count of how many times I've gone around the island, from the city and surrounding areas to places farther away like Malapascua, Bantayan, and Camotes Island.
And despite all those trips, I still find places I didn't know existed.
That got me thinking about something I've experienced many times:
Where should we go?
There are recommendations everywhere. Facebook and Instagram are full of places, but finding something specific often means digging through posts, videos, comments, and feeds.
Google is useful when you already know what you're looking for. But Google shows you almost everything.
I wanted something different.
I wanted a place where you could open a site and simply discover what Cebu has to offer.
That's why I built Cebuzone.
A different way to explore
Not every trip starts with a destination.
Sometimes you have a whole weekend planned. Sometimes you just have a free afternoon and feel like getting out.
Maybe you want a road trip. Maybe you want to find a cool waterfall. Maybe you want a warm beach. Maybe you just want to go somewhere you've never been.
Cebuzone is built around those moments.
Surprise Me is for when you don't know where to go. Let Cebuzone pick somewhere for you.
Shortlists are for when nobody can agree. Put a few places together, let everyone vote, and see what the group chooses instead of arguing over Place A, B, or C.
Going This Week gives you another way to look at a place. As more people use Cebuzone, you'll be able to see which places people are planning to visit. If somewhere looks busy and you're after something quieter, you might decide to look elsewhere.
And when you already have somewhere in mind, Trip Planning can help you put places together and estimate the travel time between them.
Because travelling around Cebu isn't always about getting from A to B.
Sometimes the places in between are what make the trip worthwhile.
Exploring Cebu, one place at a time
A lot of the places on Cebuzone are places I've personally visited.
When I have my own photos, you'll often see them on the listing. And if you see someone holding a 360° camera in one of the videos, that's me.
But I don't always have a photo.
Sometimes I'm travelling with my mother, and taking care of her is more important than stopping to get a picture. Sometimes my phone isn't in my pocket. Sometimes the 360° camera isn't in my hand.
That's just how travelling goes.
Some places I've discovered through word of mouth. Others I've come across while researching Cebu. For places I haven't personally visited, I research them using sources such as Facebook, Instagram, comments, and other available information.
I don't want to make it seem like I've personally been everywhere.
What matters to me is that there are more places in Cebu worth discovering, and Cebuzone can help bring them together.
Keeping the map useful
Cebuzone isn't meant to be a list of every business or attraction in Cebu.
It's about finding places that are worth knowing about.
As the site grows, more destinations will be added—well-known places, lesser-known spots, and places you might only hear about because someone happened to tell you about them.
Information changes too.
Prices change. Opening hours change. Places change.
I periodically check information and prices, generally every few months, and there's a Contact Us option if you spot something that's incorrect or outdated.
Cebuzone is meant to keep growing, but also to remain useful as it does.
What Cebuzone is
Cebuzone is a place-discovery guide for Cebu.
It's not a booking site or a tourism authority, and it's not meant to replace Google Maps.
You can leave a review and share your experience, but Cebuzone isn't intended to become another ratings site. The idea is to help you discover places first, then decide for yourself where you want to go.
Eventually, Cebuzone will need advertising to help keep the site running and support its continued development.
But the reason I built it is much simpler than that.
I love exploring Cebu. I know there are other people who love exploring it too. And sometimes, all you need is a place to start.
So, where are you going?
Maybe you're heading north. Maybe you're heading south. Maybe you're looking for a waterfall, a beach, a road trip, or somewhere you've never heard of before. Maybe you want to see where other people are going.
There are a lot of places to discover in Cebu. Let's go find them.
