Best Time to Visit Cebu, Month by Month
Cebu is warm year-round — it never really has an off-season for temperature. What changes is the sea and the rain. The dry months from roughly March to May bring the calmest water and the most reliable ferry crossings, which is what matters if diving or island hopping is the point of your trip. June to November is wetter and cheaper, with a real chance of cancelled boats.

Dry season: March to May
This is the best stretch for the water. Seas are calmest, visibility is at its best for diving and snorkeling, and ferry crossings to Bantayan, Malapascua, and the Camotes run most reliably. It is also the hottest part of the year, and April and May are peak domestic travel months.
If your trip depends on boats — island hopping, the sardine run at Moalboal, thresher shark dives off Malapascua, or a ferry to Bantayan — this is the window to book. Outside it, crossings still run most days, but a suspended departure can cost you a night and there is rarely a land-based substitute for the thing you came to do.
Cool dry season: December to February
Slightly cooler, still dry enough, and comfortable for the city and inland trips. Swimming is fine throughout. The catch is January: Sinulog, Cebu's largest festival, fills the city in the third week and accommodation prices follow.
Wet season: June to November
Rain comes in bursts rather than all day, and the island stays green and much cheaper. The real risk is the sea — rougher water reduces visibility, and ferry crossings and boat tours get delayed or cancelled outright around storms. Waterfalls run fuller but currents get stronger, and some close for safety after heavy rain.
A wet-season trip built around the city, Mactan, and land-based southern Cebu trips is far more robust than one built around islands.
Weeks to avoid or book early
Holy Week is the busiest week of the Philippine year and Bantayan in particular is booked out months ahead. Sinulog in January fills Cebu City. Christmas and New Year are busy island-wide. Outside those, weekends are noticeably busier and pricier than weekdays at day-use resorts and popular falls.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best month to visit Cebu?
March and April are the strongest all-round months — dry, calm seas, and the best underwater visibility of the year. May is equally good weather but hotter and busier with domestic travel. If you want the same conditions with fewer people, aim for early March.
Is the rainy season a bad time to visit Cebu?
Not for a city-and-land trip. Rain from June to November usually comes in bursts rather than all day, prices drop, and the island is at its greenest. It is a poor time to build a trip around islands or diving, because rough seas delay and cancel crossings with little notice.
When is the sea calmest in Cebu?
Roughly March to May. That window matters most for ferry crossings to Bantayan, Malapascua, and the Camotes, for boat tours out of Mactan, and for dive visibility. Outside it, crossings still run most days but are more often delayed or suspended.
