Casa Gorordo Museum

About Casa Gorordo Museum

Casa Gorordo Museum is a 19th-century ancestral house museum in Cebu City's historic Parian district. Built in the 1850s by Alejandro Reynes y Rosales and later acquired by the Gorordo family, the house preserves the domestic setting of a prominent Cebuano family. Its coral-stone and hardwood construction, period furnishings and historical collections provide a view of Cebuano life from the late 19th to early 20th century. It is also a National Historical Landmark.

What to expect

The museum occupies a two-story bahay na bato with a coral-stone lower level, hardwood upper floor, clay-tile roof and capiz-shell windows. Inside are period furniture, household objects, paintings, photographs, books and other items associated with Cebu's social and domestic history. The house is particularly useful for understanding how an affluent Cebuano household was arranged and used. Visitors can move through the living areas and other rooms while learning about the Gorordo family and the changing character of Parian. The museum also uses interpretive displays and guided hosting to explain the house and its collections. Allow around 1–2 hours for a relaxed visit, especially if you read the displays or join a guided experience. It suits visitors interested in history, architecture, Filipino heritage and family life in old Cebu. The museum can also be combined with other heritage sites in central Cebu City.

Know before you go

Published visitor information has listed admission at around ₱100, although fees and packages can change, so confirm locally before visiting. The museum's current official listing gives hours around 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday to Saturday, but schedules can change, so confirm before going. The house has stairs between floors and is an older heritage structure, so access may be less convenient for visitors with mobility limitations. Follow museum instructions around antique furniture and displays. Photography rules can vary by area; ask staff before using cameras or flash. Morning or weekday visits can be more comfortable for a quieter experience. Comfortable walking shoes are sufficient, and the museum is easy to include in a walking itinerary around Parian and nearby heritage landmarks.
