Yap-San Diego Ancestral House

About Yap-San Diego Ancestral House

Yap-San Diego Ancestral House is a late-17th-century heritage home in Cebu City's historic Parian district. Built from coral stone and wood, the two-story house reflects Chinese, Spanish and Filipino influences and is traditionally dated to between 1675 and 1700. It remains family-owned and operates as a museum, displaying antique furniture, religious figures, household objects, artwork and family heirlooms. Its preserved interiors provide a compact look at domestic life among Cebu's early Chinese-Filipino families.

What to expect

The house is a two-story bahay na bato built with coral stone and wood, with a traditional layout and preserved architectural details. Inside, visitors can see antique furniture, religious statues, old photographs, paintings, ceramics, glassware and household utensils collected or preserved by the family. One of the more distinctive parts of the visit is seeing how an old family residence was arranged rather than simply viewing objects in a conventional museum. Wooden floors, furniture, bedrooms, dining areas and household artifacts give the rooms a residential character. The garden outside also contains historical objects and a well. A visit generally takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on how closely you examine the collections. It suits visitors interested in Cebu history, architecture, Filipino-Chinese heritage and old houses. Its location in Parian also makes it practical to combine with other heritage sites in central Cebu City.

Know before you go

Published visitor information has listed admission at around ₱50–₱100 per person at different times, so confirm the current fee locally. Opening hours have also varied by source, with commonly published schedules around 9:00 AM–6:00 PM or later, so confirm before visiting. The house is in a dense historic neighborhood and the interior includes stairs, narrow passages and old wooden surfaces. Walk carefully and follow any instructions from the caretakers, particularly around fragile furniture and antiques. Comfortable footwear is sufficient; the visit does not involve a hike. Because this is a preserved ancestral home rather than a large museum complex, allow time to look closely at the rooms and objects rather than expecting extensive visitor facilities. The house can be included in a walking itinerary around Parian and nearby heritage landmarks.
