Dao Falls

About Dao Falls

Dao Falls is a towering, hidden gem located in Samboan, southern Cebu. Renowned for its sheer height and stunning turquoise pool, the waterfall is reached via a scenic, adventurous trek through a lush gorge. It is an excellent destination for nature lovers seeking a refreshing escape from the crowds, offering a blend of natural beauty, moderate trekking, and a rewarding swim in pristine waters.

What to expect

The journey to Dao Falls is half the adventure. Expect a moderate 30 to 45-minute trek that involves walking through shallow rivers, navigating around rocks, and passing between towering limestone canyon walls. The path feels like an untouched jungle trail, immersing you in dense greenery and the soothing sound of flowing water. The standout moment is arriving at the main falls—an impressive cascade plunging nearly 50 meters down a mossy limestone cliff into a vibrant blue-green pool. The water is exceptionally cool and perfect for swimming. A typical visit takes around 2 to 3 hours, including the hike and time spent swimming. It suits adventurous travelers and nature enthusiasts who don't mind getting their feet wet, though it may not be ideal for very young children or those with mobility issues.

Know before you go

Entrance fees are around ₱20 to ₱60 per person, and hiring a local guide is highly recommended (guides usually operate on a tip basis, roughly ₱100-₱200). Operating hours are generally 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM; verify locally as the falls may close on Mondays for environmental maintenance. The trail requires walking in water, so wear sturdy sandals or waterproof trekking shoes with good grip. Bring a waterproof bag for your electronics, plenty of water, and insect repellent. The path can be slippery, especially after rainfall. It's generally less crowded than other famous Cebu waterfalls.
